Classes 4c and 4d embarked on an extraordinary literary adventure. Their chosen companion? “The Wonder” by R.J. Palacio. This heartwarming novel explores themes such as friendship and resilience as well as overcoming prejudice and has ignited conversations about empathy, acceptance, and the power of kindness. For in the end, it’s not about how we look; it’s about how we make others feel!

Read one of our book reviews here:

The book “The Wonder“ is about a boy called August, who is not ordinary. There is something wrong with his face and because of that, August has had many surgeries, so he has never been to a school before. His mom tells him that she’s bad at Maths, so she won’t be able to teach him further. Thus, August has to go to school and there people stare at him and talk bad about him, but he also meets Summer and Jack, which become and stay his friends, even when they have a small fight. They defend him and are nice to him. At the end of the school year, August even receives a medal for helping other kids.

I enjoyed the book very much. In my opinion, the story is well-written, realistic, wholesome and has a great moral. I would recommend the book to children who also struggle with being “not ordinary” because it doesn’t matter what mean people at school think about you. There will always be people who love you for who you are.
